002 - A Brief Submitted to INDU on The Study of Opportunities, Risks, and Regulation of AI in Canada’s Strategic Industries
Timeline: May 2025 - June 2026 ( 1 year)
Outcome: A Brief

Brief:
To identify practical pathways to AI Bias management, we decided to explore the state of AI regulation. What is regulated, how is it regulated, and would the proposed regulation lead to the desired outcome and to effectively manage bias?
We focused on the Canadian context. We started by studying the AI and Data Act (AIDA) part of Bill C-27 and identifying what needs to be done differently should this bill be reintroduced in the current session. We formulated our recommendations into a brief and submitted it to INDU, the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, on their study of Opportunities, Risks, and Regulation of AI in Canada’s Strategic Industries.
Our brief outlines ten recommendations and three suggested guardrails to the committee. None of these recommendations explicitly address AI Bias, but we rather focus on recommendations that would reduce complexity and clarify ambiguity around AI Bias.
